Our Intensive English Programme is designed for students who wish to progress as quickly as possible and improve their accuracy and fluency in a short space of time. With two sessions of English per day, students will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves
in the four basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing all day. Using their English skills inside and outside the classroom, students will progress quickly and increase their
confidence and communication ability noticeably.
Morning sessions will include the introduction of new grammar points, vocabulary and syntax while afternoon sessions will focus more on project-based work, allowing students to put their language skills into practical application.
Highlights:
- Over 30hrs English Tuition per week, from qualified native speakers
- Intensive help with pronunciation and accent reduction to focus on fluency
- Full board and accommodation including all meals and snacks
- Extensive programme of evening activities and excursions
- Dedicated welfare staff on site 24/7
Placement test: Your child will be sent a placement test to complete prior to arriving at the camp; allowing us to place them in the most appropriate group. A short test will also take place on the first morning to ensure that all students are in the right place. Students may move groups at the end of the week (for stays or 2/3 weeks) as appropriate. Please note, we do not accept applications from complete beginner with no previous knowledge of English. Students will be placed in the most appropriate group for their level, catering from A1 to C2. For more information on English levels, please click here for the Common European Framework
Teachers: Our academic staff (teachers, senior teachers and Director of Studies) are all native speakers who are suitably qualified for their roles according to the criteria of Accreditation UK.
Methodology: Our teachers teach in a friendly and open way, engaging students with interesting lessons using current topics to encourage active participation and language production. Teachers plan their lessons to include relevant grammar, lexis and vocabulary to aid students’ accuracy, and also assist them with their pronunciation and fluency in more conversation- based topics. All students are expected to participate fully.
Progress Evaluation: Teachers will monitor students’ progress and understanding throughout the week, and
short assessments may be used to ensure they are improving. The Director of Studies reviews all assessments to ensure students remain in the most appropriate group and may adjust where required. We believe that using interesting and current topics, and a task-based approach to learning enables students to maximise their enjoyment and production of authentic and accurate language. Students won’t even realise they are learning English!
Certificates Students will leave Sherborne Language School with a certificate confirming their attendance, their current English level and a short report from their class teacher.
Classes: maximum of 16 students per class
Groupings: Students will be placed into appropriate groups according to age, ability and experience
Students have the option to stay at the school where they will be housed in a homely environment in one the schools’ modern boarding houses. Rooms are twin or quad with shared bathroom facilities. Students will have their own space in the dorm, with a wardrobe, desk and drawers as well as a comfy single bed.
